Overview
This half day online seminar consists of a series of lectures from the multidisciplinary hypodontia team at Queen Mary University of London/Barts Health. The afternopon will begin at 13:30PM. This team consists of consultants/professors in the specialties of Paediatric, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry. They will address the difficulties and strategies on managing space loss due to congenital missing or accidental loss of teeth, with the emphasis of the team approach to achieve the optimal aesthetic results for the patients.
As a result of the course being online, there are certain points that candidates should be aware of:
- All candidates must have a MAC / PC with admin access to install Zoom
- All candidates must ensure that they have a strong broadband/internet connection

Aims & Objectives
• To assess the overall challenges in management presented to the dental team
• To describe the assessment of facial and dental aesthetics.
• To demonstrate the importance of MDT on the management of missing teeth
• To demonstrate the treatment options of space management for missing teeth
• To demonstrate the timing of treatment in Paediatric, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry for patients from childhood to adulthood.
Learning Outcomes
After the symposium, the participant should be able to:
• Describe the overall challenges in managing space loss.
• Assess facial and dental aesthetics.
• Appreciate the need of the MDT team to manage missing teeth.
• Recount the choice of management for patients with missing teeth.
• Apply the knowledge to formulate an appropriate treatment plan for patients with missing teeth from adolescents to adults.

This event will commence with the 2024 James IV Lecture. This 30 minute Lecture will precede the 2024 Educational Symposium. This year’s Lecturer is Professor Grant McIntyre, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery. Professor McIntyre is an NHS Consultant and Honorary Professor in Orthodontics and Joint Clinical Director at Dundee Dental Research Hospital and School. Professor McIntyre is an examiner for MFDS and Morth and has been a Member of Dental Council since 2014. Professor McIntyre’s Clinical work involves the orthodontic management of facial deformity, TMJ-orthognathic cases and cleft lip and palate along with being an Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor for a number of core and specialty trainees. The title of the Lecture is “Dentofacial Deformity: Brave New World.
