7th Neuroradiology Workshop for Neurosurgeons
This 2 day course is an interactive, case-based set of workshops of neuroradiological imaging. Each delegate is provided with a radiology workstation which contains a database of imaging viewed on a software that simulates how a clinician would view images at work.
Each workshop is jointly taught by a Neuroradiologist and Neurosurgeon with discussion centered around the interpretation and diagnosis of neuroradiological pathology, core to neurosurgery followed by correlation of the imaging to the neurosurgical approach.
During the workshops, there will be teaching on the application of the different types of imaging modalities and basic applied physics to enhance the learning experience and understanding. Learning points will be reinforced with bite size presentations during the sessions. There is no didactic lecture based teaching.
The workshops are divided as below to cover all aspects of neurosurgical radiology
- Basic Concepts of Imaging
- Intracranial Space Occupying Lesions
- Intracranial Vascular Lesions
- Paediatrics
- Cranial Trauma
- Spinal Trauma
- Non-Traumatic Spinal Pathology
Suitability
Neurosurgical Trainees ST1-ST6
Relevant Grades
ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5, ST6
Course Format
Computer-based workshop
Course Objectives
- To understand the fundamentals of current neuroimaging techniques.
- The role imaging plays in assisting neurosurgeons in diagnosis and surgical planning of common intracranial and spinal pathologies.
- To inform and improve the day to day working neuroradiology knowledge of neurosurgeons.
- Enhanced learning through case-based learning and discussion.
- To instill confidence in delegates approach to imaging for the FRCS (SN) examination.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this 2 day course, delegates will be able to:
- Interpret neuro-radiological investigations for multiple intracranial and spinal pathologies.
- Describe the impact and influence on patient management of neuro-radiological investigations.
- Apply knowledge of radiological investigations in practice, both in theater and on the wards.
- Discuss how imaging is used to guide operative approach to a broad range of pathologies.
