Dean
Professor Grant T McIntyre is an NHS Consultant and Honorary Professor in Orthodontics and Joint Clinical Director at Dundee Dental Research Hospital & School. Within the College, Grant is an examiner for MFDS and MOrth and has been a Member of Dental Council since 2014. Grant's clinical work involves the orthodontic management of facial deformity, TMJ-orthognathic cases and cleft lip and palate along with being an Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor for a number of Core and Specialty Trainees.
Vice Dean
Mr William S McLaughlin is Hospital Dental Tutor (All Specialties) for Wales, Chairs the Welsh Restorative Dentistry Advisory Group and is Clinical Lead for Restorative Dentistry at Cardiff Dental Hospital. He was Clinical Director for Cardiff Dental Hospital from 2010-2011.
Honorary Secretary
Professor Ivor G. Chestnutt is Professor in Dental Public Health at Cardiff University and Hon. Consultant to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and received both his MPH and PhD degrees from the University of Glasgow. He leads the Dental Public Health Unit in Cardiff (2006 – present), has been Director of Postgraduate Dental Education in the University (2011-2022) and was Clinical Director of the University Dental Hospital of Wales (2016-2022). He has researched and published extensively in the field of Dental Public Health and Health Services Research. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since 1990.
Convener of Dental Examinations
Dr Tim O'Brien is an Associate Professor/Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Peninsula Dental School whose focus is on running and developing taught postgraduate courses at the University of Plymouth. He has previously been an examiner for a number of RCS Ed examinations including the MFDS, the Diploma in Clinical Dental technology, the Diploma in Implant Dentistry and most recently the mono-specialty membership examinations in Restorative dentistry. He chaired the Specialty Advisory Board in Restorative dentistry until November 2021 when he stepped down in order to take on the role of Convener. He has extensive experience of teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate dentists, and has developed a number of successful programmes at Master’s degree level.
Convener of Dental Education
Dr Lochana Nanayakkara is an NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Royal London Dental Hospital. She is also the current Director of Dental Education for BartsHealth NHS Trust and the co-Director of the DClinDent programme in Prosthodontics at Queen Mary, University of London. She has a clinical interest in managing patients with complicated medical histories. Since 2010, Lochana has been actively working with the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to improve global access to dental care for people with inherited bleeding disorders. She is now the President of the Dental Committee of WFH.

Professor Lotfy Kelany is an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the College of Dentistry at Misr University of Science and Technology in Egypt. He also heads the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Haram Hospital and works as a consultant at Souad Kafafi Hospital in Cairo. He obtained his PhD in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at Cairo University in 2020 and holds Membership and Fellowship of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dental Council Member
Mr Toby Gillgrass is a Consultant Orthodontist at the Glasgow Dental Hospital and Glasgow Children’s Hospital. He is presently the Clinical Lead for the Cleft Surgical Service for Scotland and Lead for the Orthodontic Group for Cleft Care Scotland. He represents the Cleft Surgical Service for Scotland on the Cleft Development Group, and is part of the Quality Monitoring Improvement Committee for cleft care in the UK. Mr Gillgrass has served two previous terms of Dental Council, he was a former chair and presently serves on the Specialist Advisory Board for Orthodontics.

Dr Carole Ann Boyle is a Consultant and Clinical Lead for Sedation and Special Care Dentistry at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London. She is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer. Carole is a member of the Specialist Advisory Board in Oral Medicine & Special Care Dentistry, chairs the Speciality Advisory committee for SCD and is the Co-Chair of the Tri-Collegiate Membership in Special Care Dentistry.
Dental Council Member
Dr John Scholey is a Consultant and Clinical Lead in Orthodontics at the University Hospitals of North Midlands in Stoke-on-Trent. He became a fellow of the College in 1997 before specialty training in Orthodontics with a further Membership and Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2001 and 2003. John has been an examiner with the College initially at MFDS then subsequently for the Membership in Orthodontics since 2001. He is the current Vice Chair of the SAB in Orthodontics and chairs the successful RCSEd orthodontic webinar series.
Dental Council Member
Mr Andrew Baldwin is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Divisional Clinical Director (Surgery) at North Manchester General Hospital. He has previously been an elected member on Council of BAOMS. Andrew has been a Fellow of the College since 1998. He is currently Chair of the Surgical Specialty Board for OMFS, and examines in the MFDS and MOMS examinations.

Professor Alison JE Qualtrough has a Chair at the University of Manchester. She is an Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry within Manchester Foundation Trust with leading education and clinical roles in restorative dentistry and endodontics. She is Chair of the Teachers of Endodontology Group, is on the GDC Specialist Advisory Committee in Restorative Dentistry and sits on the Specialist Advisory Board in Restorative Dentistry

Dr Ian Corbett Is a consultant Oral Surgeon and honorary senior lecturer in Newcastle upon Tyne and has been a Member of the College since 2001 and a Fellow since 2010. He is past Chair and continues to be a member of the Oral Surgery SAB. Ian has extensive experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and is an external examiner for the GDC
Dental Council Member
Dr Claire Morgan has been a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry since 2006. Her main clinical role involves the provision of Restorative dental care for Head and Neck oncology patients. With an interest in PG education and an experienced educational supervisor she is lead ISFE examiner in management for Restorative Dentistry. She views patient safety as a priority and promotes this as dental representative on the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Patient Safety Group and through her current role as Clinical Governance Lead for dental and oral maxillofacial surgery at her Trust.
Dental Council Member
Professor Nigel Robb is a Professor of Restorative Dentistry. He attended dental school in Edinburgh and worked as a research assistant at Guy’s Dental School, completing a PhD in “Epidemiological Studies of Toothwear”. He developed an interest in general anaesthesia and sedation due to time served in the Territorial Army. He then developed and ran the first university sedation qualification which commenced in 1996. Nigel has held positions at the Universities of Newcastle, Wales College of Medicine,, Glasgow and Bristol, and recently worked at the Griffith University in Australia. Professor Robb has published 81 papers in refereed journals and contributed to seven textbooks and 15 standard and guidelines publications.

Mr Richard Cure is Associate Professor, Head of Orthodontics at The University of Warwick. He is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers and a GDC Education Associate. He examines for the College at MOrth, MFDS and MAGDS.

Mr. Ahmed Tarek Elshanawany is an Orthodontic Consultant based in Cairo, Egypt. He was qualified in Egypt, further awarded the MSc in Orthodontics in Distinction from the University of Dundee, UK, followed by Speciality Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) awarded from the Royal Colleges of England, Glasgow and Edinburgh (RCSEng, RCPSG and RCSEd) and dental memberships of the Royal Colleges of Ireland and Glasgow (MFD and MFDS). Mr. Elshanawany is involved in orthodontic postgraduate education in Egypt through En Masse Dental Institute. His clinical and research interests are patient-centered-orthodontics, 3D-orthodontic appliances, orthodontic biomechanics and orthodontic retention.
Postgraduate Dental Dean for Scotland
Dr David Felix is the Postgraduate Dental Dean Representative, who is an ex-officio member of Dental Council. He is Postgraduate Dental Dean for Scotland and currently Chair of the UK Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans and Directors (COPDEND). He was elected to Dental Council in 1999 serving as Secretary from 1999 - 2005 and subsequently Dean of the Dental Faculty 2008 - 2011.
