The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare, as part of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, is looking forward to attending and presenting at the Academy for Silent Mentor Tripartite Conference taking place in Kuching, Malaysia, from 14 to 16 December 2022.

Organised jointly by the Academy for Silent Mentor (AFSM), the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), the College of Surgeons Academy of Malaysia (CSAMM), and the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH), the theme of the conference is Healthcare Challenges in the 21st Century.

The central healthcare challenges identified for the conference include the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, dealing with acute aortic dissections, and the delivery of healthcare in remote, rural, and humanitarian settings.

The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare is delighted to be supporting this symposium and having the opportunity to meet some of their members from the region. Members of the Faculty Executive Committee, Professor Angus Watson, Professor Tony Redmond and Mr Andy Kent will be presenting on a variety of topics including rural surgery around the world, trauma care in conflict and disasters, and their experiences of humanitarian healthcare deployments.

The Faculty will also be presenting on the development and impact of their Introduction to Humanitarian Healthcare Online Course, which was made free to access earlier this year in solidarity with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The conference organisers have curated an exciting and informative programme of workshops that delegates can sign-up to attend. These include Non-Technical Skills from RCSEd Fellow, Dr Kenneth Walker. Workshops on Trauma Skills and Emergency and Disaster Response will also be available.

Conference registration in addition to tickets for the workshops and gala dinner is available here.
