FRRHH Update – Focus on Humanitarian Healthcare

Friday 24 February 2023 marked one year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
As the conflict persists, the call for vital medical support continues to grow. Our partners, UK-Med, have continually deployed teams of healthcare practitioners since the conflict began, and are now providing support to communities in Turkey and Syria struck by devastating earthquakes earlier this year.
We are immensely proud of our Executive Committee members, Deputy Chair Andy Kent and RCSEd Council Member Angus Watson who have deployed with UK-Med over the last 12 months. Both have provided lifesaving surgical care in field hospitals and mobile clinics, as well as supporting Ukrainian healthcare teams with surgical training.
Andy spoke with Anthony Loyd for The Times of the vast scale of the conflict, "This has overwhelmed any previous experience I have had”. Read the full story here.
We are proud of the role RCSEd has played in supporting individuals and organisations responding to increasingly complex humanitarian disasters and crises. The College focuses on championing standards within training, education and patient safety, providing professional development opportunities and formal recognition of the vast experience gained from responding to a humanitarian crisis or disaster.
The FRRHH Introduction to Humanitarian Healthcare course can support those who have deployment experience to reflect on their previous deployments and deepen their understanding of humanitarian healthcare, or refresh their knowledge pre or post deployment.
The course will also support those interested in humanitarian healthcare to make an informed decision before they begin their journey in pursuing a career in humanitarian healthcare paid or voluntary. Access to the course is free and registration is open to non-members. To learn more about the course and register, click here.
How You Can Help
Financial contributions directly support the delivery of aid and can make a significant difference to those in need of emergency support. Find out how to support a humanitarian crisis further from UK-Med founder and FRRHH Executive Committee member Professor Tony Redmond in his article for The I.
