The 2nd International Congress on Innovations in Global Surgery (ICIGS) is being held on the 24th and 25th of April 2023, at the White Sands Sarova Hotel, Mombasa, Kenya.
This event is in partnership with the Surgical Society of Kenya (SSK) and precedes their annual conference. The conference aims to promote interdisciplinary collaborations among healthcare professionals, students, engineers, industry partners and related professionals. We aspire to create a platform to discuss and cross-pollinate ideas on effectively disseminating frugal and advanced technologies relevant to the rural settings of low and middle income countries.
On day one, ICIGS is hosting practical workshops led by experts: Wide Awake Local Anaesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) surgery, Technology Innovations for laparoscopic surgery, cystoscopy, Virtual reality in Medicine and Surgery (VRIMS) and Flexible endoscopy.
Day two will be the scientific conference with a focus on panel discussions on the themes of essential components of surgical innovations, prioritising training to increase the Surgery, Anaesthesia and Obstetric (SAO) workforce, issues around the health system and policy, and commercialisation and upscaling technology. There will be a hackathon on brainstorming solutions for the unmet need of the specialist workforce and the role of technology-enhanced learning.
With the aim to translate innovations in surgery into alleviating poverty, we hope we will see you there!
