Viking Surgeons Association - Rural Orthopaedics

Overview
The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare have partnered with the Viking Surgeons Association (VSA) to deliver a series of webinars focused on Rural Surgery.
An overview of the learning outcomes for this webinar will include:
- A description of clinical scenarios that are clinically urgent and a description of cases with proven infection that can wait to be referred routinely.
- An understanding of the anatomy of the proximal humerus, and the diagnosis and management of proximal humerus fractures.
- An overview of wrist fracture management: a summary of current evidence and a realistic management of wrist fractures.
Panellists
Professor Angus Watson (Chair)
Consultant General and Colorectal surgeon and is Director of Research and Development at NHS Highland
Angus Watson is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and Caithness General Hospital, Wick. He has been Director of Research, Development and Innovation in NHS Highland since 2010 and holds honorary chairs at the Universities of Aberdeen, Stirling and the Highlands and Islands. He is a national Clinical Advisor for Health and Social Care Innovation. He has over 170 peer reviewed publications and a grant income of over £8.7 million. Angus was the recipient of the RCSEd 2019 Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship.
Speaker 1: Louise McCullough
Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Title of Presentation: Proximal Humeral Fractures
Louise is a Consultant Trauma Surgeon in NHS Grampian, working in the major trauma centre in Aberdeen, providing a virtual clinic to surgical colleagues in Shetland. As well as her surgical role she is clinical education lead for the North of Scotland Major Trauma Network.
Speaker 2: Adeline Clement
FRCSEd (Tr&Orth), EBHS Diploma, Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon in Inverness
Title of Presentation: Wrist Fractures
Adeline completed her orthopaedic training on the North of Scotland rotation, followed by hand and wrist fellowships at Guy's and St Thomas' London and Groot Schuur Hospital, Cape Town. She currently runs a single surgeon orthopaedic hand and wrist service for the NHS Highland Health board and has been actively involved in service development. Adeline has a special interest in education and postgraduate training, regularly teaching on trauma, leadership and hand and wrist courses. She has been regularly involved in education, training and humanitarian work in Myanmar and other parts of South East Asia.
Speaker 3: Gary Keenan
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Infirmary Edinburgh
Title of presentations: Bone and Joint Infection
Consultant since 1999 with specialist interest in dealing with Orthopaedic soft tissue infection along with reconstruction using Ilizarov frame and amputation.
