COSMOS – Consultation Skills that Matter for Surgeons - Shared Decision Making

11th February 2025, 19:00 to 20:30 GMT

Overview

Our consultations form the basis of the whole package of surgical care. They determine patients’ choices, their confidence, their ability to cope with complications, and much else. But do we take the same care with them as we do with an operation?

In this webinar we will cover key points of the RCSEd COSMOS programme, module A, which is about “Shared Decision Making”.

Aims

This webinar will bring participants up to date with current best practice in Shared Decision Making.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be better able to:

  • Explain the need for Consultation Skills, therapeutic conversations and Shared Decision Making (SDM) with patients
  • List core elements of good consultation, and pitfalls
  • Demonstrate use of the “team talk and options talk” parts of the “3 talk” model
  • Adapt to cultural variations.
