Join us for the second of four Beyond the Scalpel sessions. This session is an enlightening talk on Healthcare Inequalities with Prof Ghazala Mir, a distinguished professor of Health Equity and Inclusion at the University of Leeds. She is also a Research Lead at Nuffield Centre for Health and International Development and the Founder and Chair of Inequalities Research Network. Dive deeper into the world of healthcare disparities and empower yourself with the knowledge to champion the cause of equality in healthcare outcomes. 

Aims

This webinar on inclusivity in surgery aims to provide a deeper understanding of equity and inclusivity in surgery.   

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the concept and various dimensions of healthcare inequalities and their implications
  • Gain knowledge on methods and approaches to assessing and measuring healthcare inequalities, including the role of epidemiology and social determinants of health
  • Acquire insights from Prof. Mir’s research work on health equity and inclusion specifically, her experiences with the Inequalities Research Network at the University of Leeds
  • Analyse strategies and interventions aimed at reducing healthcare inequalities at local, national and international levels, and the role that healthcare professionals can place in advocating for change
  • Identify and critically discuss key challenges in addressing healthcare inequalities, such as structural and systemic barriers within the healthcare system.

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Professor Ghazala Mir - Professor of Health Equity and Inclusion, Leeds Institute of Health Sciences. Chair, Inequalities Research Network, University of Leeds.

    Ghazala Mir is Professor of Health Equity and Inclusion at the University of Leeds with research interests in health and social inequalities.

    Her research focuses on the experience of people underserved by health and other public services and she has led work to highlight key research priorities in this field. She leads the multidisciplinary Inequalities Research Network and research that bring together academics, advocacy organisations, public services practitioners and policymakers to help reduce the inequalities that affect disadvantaged groups.
