Join us for our fourth and final session in the “Beyond the Scalpel” series. The panellist for this webinar is Mr Josh Burke and will focus on innovation in surgery. Mr Burke has extensive experience as a General Surgery Registrar, Clinical Research Fellow at both Leeds University and Bowel Cancer UK and a lecturer at UCL. He brings a wealth of knowledge to this webinar subject. Most notably, he chaired the “Future of Surgery: Technology Enhanced Surgical Training” report and will provide insightful discussions on the latest advancements and innovative practices in surgery.
Aims
This webinar on innovation in surgery aims to provide up to date knowledge on innovation in surgery and provide practical tools and strategies that can be implemented professionally.

Mr Josh Burke
General Surgery Registrar/Co-Director & Co-founder of the RCSEng Innovation Hub/Chair, Commission on The Future of Surgery: Technology Enhanced Surgical Training.
Josh is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery based in Manchester, with an interest in advanced colorectal cancer. He sits on the National Bowel Cancer Audit (NBOCA) Steering Group and holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, where he developed novel devices to detect anastomotic leaks, funded by Bowel Cancer UK. He also holds higher degrees in Health Research and Medical Education.
Josh chaired the Commission on the Future of Surgery’s ‘Technology Enhanced Surgical Training’ report and now serves as Director of Education at RCS England’s Innovation Hub. He is also a Lecturer in Innovation on the Surgical Education MSc at University College London.
Nationally, he contributes to the Robotics and Digital Surgery Committee at RCS England and is a Trustee for both CORESS (Patient Safety) and the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT).
