Overview
This RCSEd study session will focus on career topics and choices for early career dentists. The course will be delivered online with a series of three short informative talks with interactive questions and answers available to attendees following each talk.
The session will include an overview of three areas: “How to get published?”, “How to become a dental practice owner? and “Why undertake the MFDS examination?”
Relevant information will be shared to help early career dentists prepare for and excel in their future careers. A verifiable CPD certificate will be awarded to attendees.
Aims
The aim of this event is to share an overview about three areas including: dental practice ownership, publication and publishing processes and the MFDS examination.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, the participant should be able to:
- Outline how to prepare a manuscript and the submission, review and publishing process
- Outline the different types of publications and timescales involved
- Describe ways in which to increase the impact of your work
- Outline first-hand stories and experiences of private practice ownership
- Describe the realities of owning a practice that are facing the profession over the coming years
- Describe the advantages and reasons for undertaking the MFDS examination

Speakers
Alex Orchard
Dr Alex Orchard is a Speciality Dentist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Berkshire, UK and is currently studying a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the University of Bristol. He graduated from the University of Leeds in Dentistry before undertaking postgraduate dental training years in hospitals in Bristol and London. He was awarded a Distinction in 2019 for a Diploma in Conscious Sedation. He has successfully published several articles and will share advice on how and why to get published.
Mark Tangri
Title– How to become a private dental practice owner
Graduating in 2003 from Birmingham University, Mark immediately worked full time in both private practice and Oral & Maxillofacial Units for three years, being awarded his MFDS RCS Ed in 2006. A VT trainer in 2009, 2010 & 2011, Mark’s VDPs were all regional prize winners. A Harvard Medical School Global Surgical Leadership Scholar with clinical postgraduate qualifications in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology and Sedation, we are pleased to have Mark candidly share is stories of private practice ownership, discuss the realities facing the profession over the coming years ahead and answer questions on dental related topics.
Mark Mokhles
Dr Mark Mokhles is an assistant lecturer in Oral Biology Department at the British University in Egypt, teaching Human Dentition and Oral Biology modules since 2015. He graduated from Cairo University in 2012 with a grade of honour, got his diploma of membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2014, then received his master’s degree from Ain Shams University in 2020. Mark is the co-founder of Berlin Dental Center in Cairo which was established in 2017 and equipped with a full digital lab. He manages the digital workflow in the clinic and practice advanced general dentistry. He will share the career benefits of undertaking the MDFS examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Faculty of Dental Surgery.
Haris Ghole
Dr Haris Ghole is a cosmetic dentist and a private practitioner from Lahore, Pakistan. He graduated in 2014 and was awarded the All Pakistan Best UG dentist of the year award in 2015. He also got a 2nd position in the Punjab Public Service Commission getting an entry into government service. He completed a diploma in Advanced General Dentistry the same year. He did the MFDS exam and then the Dubai licensing exam shortly after and moved to Dubai for a short while where he did numerous courses on cosmetic and advanced general dentistry. He is the Vice President of a US based charity, where he has helped provide support and health education to the remote areas of the world including villages in Pakistan and Madagascar. He represents the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in South Asia. He’s an online content creator and the founder of HELPINGDENTISTS, an online education platform that has so far helped countless dental students and dentists in exam preparation and career guidance.
