Casualty Care in Mountain Rescue

Overview
This webinar will detail how members of UK Mountain Rescue Teams are trained, educated and assessed to deliver patient care to a very high standard, including the use of controlled drugs, in austere and remote locations across the UK. The webinar will look at the equipment and drug formulary available to a UK Mountain Rescue Team operating under the auspices of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, Scottish Mountain Rescue and British Cave Rescue Council.
Aims
To inform the delegates of how UK Mountain Rescue Teams deliver the best possible care to their casualties in remote and austere environments.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
- Describe the clinical governance structure of Mountain Rescue in the UK.
- Describe how a UK Remote Rescue Medical Technician is trained and educated.
- Recognise what equipment and drugs are used to provide casualty care in mountain rescue.
- Summarise the assessment and examination of the Remote Rescue Medical Technician award.
- Recognise that the majority of casualty care in Uk Mountain Rescue is provided by lay members.
- Recognise how health care professionals who are also UK Mountain Rescue Team members support, guide and educate their lay member colleagues.
Panellists
Our panellists include:
- Dr Alistair Morris
Medical Director Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
Dr. Morris is a consultant paediatrician with a particular interest in emergency and ambulatory care and medical education. He has over 40 years of outdoor experience including walking, running, climbing, caving, mountaineering, expedition cycling and adventure racing and is an active member of the Calder Valley Mountain Rescue team.
