Faculty of Remote, Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare Fellowship Fund 2021 – Project Update 1

Overview
The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare is delighted to present a new webinar miniseries providing the opportunity for the recipients of the FRRHH Fellowship Fund 2021 to provide updates on their projects; including the impact of their project in local areas, how their work has helped their career, and how the funding from the Faculty has helped their work.
Each of these webinars will feature two or three Fellowship Fund recipients and will be chaired by a member of the Faculty Executive Committee.
In this webinar, the Faculty of Remote, Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare is proud to host the first recipients of the inaugural FRRHH Fellowship Fund 2021 to discuss the impact of their project and how it has helped to further their career. There will also be an introduction to the Faculty and the aims of the Fellowship Fund from the Webinar Chair.
The funded projects covered in this webinar will be:
- Taking Surgery There - Rural Surgical Camps in Zambia – Dr Richard Miti
- Trauma Outcomes Study after Simulation Training in Burundi – Mr Nigel Rossiter
This webinar will be of particular interest to those working in remote, rural, and humanitarian healthcare who are interested in applying for future Fellowship Funds run by the faculty and will help form part of a toolkit for those applying for funding related to remote, rural and humanitarian healthcare projects. This will also be of interest to those applying for other funds such as the RCSEd Global Surgery Foundation, whose applications close on 20th August 2023.

- The positive impact of the FRRHH Fellowship Fund on remote, rural and humanitarian healthcare

Mr Noel Aruparayil, NIHR Clinical Research Fellow in Global Surgery - Surgeon & PhD researcher in global surgical technology at the University of Leeds, UK

Mr Nigel Rossiter; Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Chair & Medical Director, Primary Trauma Care Foundation - Nigel is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in Basingstoke, UK. Previously a T&O surgeon in the British Army for 18 years he is Chair & Medical Director of the Primary Trauma Care Foundation running Trauma training in 84 low resource countries globally, and founder of a hospital charity – twinning his hospital with one in Uganda. He sits (with Tony) on the Global Alliance for Care of the Injured (GACI) at the WHO and sits on the board of the G4Alliance advocating for available accessible acceptable and quality Surgery Obstetric Trauma & Anaesthetic care globally. He is a member of the Oxford University Global Surgery Group, and the Faculty of Remote Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr Richard Miti - Dr Richard Miti currently works for the government of the Republic of Zambia as a registrar in the fourth year of general surgery training under COSECSA, at Chipata Central hospital. His current roles are the Acting Head of Department of Surgery, Chief Resident in the Department of Surgery, Deputy in-Charge of internship training at the institution, and he is also leads the training of clinical officers and medical licentiates. He has previously worked as Medical Officer in-Charge of 3rd Level hospital.
