Overview
The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare is delighted to continue our webinar miniseries providing the opportunity for the recipients of the FRRHH Fellowship Fund 2021 to provide updates on their projects; including the impact of their project in local areas, how their work has helped their career, and how the funding from the Faculty has helped their work.
Each of these webinars will feature Fellowship Fund recipients and will be chaired by a member of the Faculty Executive Committee.
In this webinar, the Faculty of Remote, Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare is proud to host the next recipients of the inaugural FRRHH Fellowship Fund 2021 to discuss the impact of their project and how it has helped to further their career. It is hosted by Professor Angus Watson, Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon and member of the FRRHH Executive Committee.
The funded projects covered in this webinar will be:
- Oral Health Status in Remote and Rural Nepal: A Systematic Review and Thematic Analysis – Mr Ashutosh Kumar Singh
- Surgical Training and Current Healthcare System in Post-Conflict Liberia – Mr Muhammad Zeeshan Aslam
This webinar will be of particular interest to those working in remote, rural, and humanitarian healthcare who are interested in applying for future Fellowship Funds run by the faculty and will help form part of a toolkit for those applying for funding related to remote, rural and humanitarian healthcare projects. This will also be of interest to those applying for other funds such as the RCSEd Global Surgery Foundation, whose applications close on 20th August 2023.

Professor Angus Watson, Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon and Director of Research & Development, NHS Highland - Angus Watson is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and Caithness General Hospital, Wick. He has been Director of Research, Development and Innovation in NHS Highland since 2010 and holds honorary chairs at the Universities of Aberdeen, Stirling and the Highlands and Islands. He is a national Clinical Advisor for Health and Social Care Innovation. He has over 170 peer reviewed publications and a grant income of over £8.7 million. Angus was the recipient of the RCSEd 2019 Tuanku Muhriz Fellowship.
- Mohammad Zeeshan Aslam – Muhammad Zeeshan Aslam completed his undergraduate training in Pakistan and Urological training in Northern Ireland. He currently works as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Victoria Hospital, NHS Fife, specializing in management of renal cancers. Over the last 7 years, he has remained involved in international teaching work with The British Association of Urological Surgeons charity, Urolink and American organisation IVUmed and has completed several Urology workshops in Southern Ethiopia. He has remained active in the African continent with another laparoscopy campaign in Hospital General Idrissa Pouye, Senegal, which has been accredited by RCSEd, and several laparoscopy workshops in 4 different institutes in Pakistan. He is currently studying a Masters in Public Health with interest in strengthening healthcare care setups in conflict affected low and middle income countries.
- Ashutosh Kumar Singh – Ashutosh is an Experienced Consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the field, skilled in Clinical Research, Medical Education, TMJ Surgery, Orthognathic Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and Medicine. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Institute of Medicine Nepal, and volunteers in his free time for a philanthropic organization, Ek Ek Paila as a Dental Consultant. Along with being registered as MOMS RCSED, he also serves as a Regional Dental Ambassador for The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
