Overview

The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare (FRRHH) and the Association of Rural Surgeons of India (ARSI) are delighted to launch a joint webinar series exploring key issues in rural surgery. The first session, Innovations in Rural Surgery, will highlight pioneering approaches, technologies and practices designed to meet the unique challenges of surgical care in rural and resource-limited settings. Speakers will share practical insights and case studies that demonstrate how innovation is improving outcomes and expanding access to safe, effective surgery for underserved communities worldwide.

Aims

To highlight the importance of innovations in global surgery, provide an overview of the different types of innovations, and illustrate these with practical examples.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the different types of innovations relevant to global surgery.
  • Explain the concept of frugal and impactful innovations, including their role in rural healthcare settings.
  • Identify barriers and facilitators to implementing innovations in practice.
  • Discuss real-world examples of frugal innovations in global surgery.
  • Consider how selected innovations could be applied within their own professional contexts.

Our panellists include:

  • Mr Gnanaraj Jesudian - Founder Director Rural Surgery Innovations of Association of Rural Surgeons of India. Urologist, laparoscopic and rural surgeon with 4 decades work experience in rural areas. Past President of ARSI, board member of G4 Alliance and International Federation of rural surgeons.
  • Mr Noel Aruparayil - Secretary General, Innovations in Global Surgery. Past NIHR fellow Global Health Research Group, Surgical Technologies, University of Leeds.
