Surgical simulation training in low resource areas
9th December 2025, 18:00 to 19:15 GMT
Overview
There is a widening gap between those requiring surgical care globally and those trained with the abilities to deliver that care. Current training models are contributing to that widening gap. New models of self constructed, self learning and self-administered self-assessment have been developed. This webinar will provide an overview of them with a panel of contributors from the SELF group (https://www.self.surgery).
Aims
To inform people about new ideas for self directed learning and skill acquisition in surgery.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
-
Understand the global surgical provider gap and reasons for it
-
Learn about low fidelity simulator construction and use for technical skill acquisition
-
Understand the concept of self-administered, self-assessment
-
Help in the design of programs
-
Help in the design of outcome research.
