Is AI and technology useful for the benefit of Surgical training?
30th June 2026, 19:00 to 20:00 BST
Overview
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly emerging as a powerful tool within surgical education and training. This webinar will explore how AI can support both trainees and trainers through applications including exam preparation, interview coaching, simulation, personalised feedback, and operative assessment. Using real-world examples and recent pilot projects, the session will discuss how AI may help address key training challenges such as limited training opportunities, rising costs, differential attainment, and workforce pressures.
The webinar will also explore the limitations of AI, including bias, hallucinations, and the need for robust human oversight and quality assurance. Attendees will gain practical insight into how AI can be integrated into surgical training to augment, and not replace, traditional educational methods.
Aims
- To explore the current and potential role of artificial intelligence in surgical training and education.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
- Demonstrate practical applications of AI that may support both surgical trainees and trainers.
- Discuss the potential risks and limitations of AI in training.
