Overview

This webinar will explore the multidisciplinary management of endometriosis, especially when the bowel is involved, with a focus on decision-making at FRCS level. Through case-based discussion, the session will cover diagnostic challenges, indications for surgical intervention, and operative strategies. The collaboration between colorectal and gynaecological specialists will be emphasised, alongside key considerations in patient selection, consent, and perioperative planning. The session aims to provide a structured, exam-relevant approach to a complex and increasingly encountered clinical problem.

Aims

To provide a structured, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of endometriosis, with emphasis on surgical decision-making and FRCS-level understanding.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the pathophysiology and patterns of endometriosis
  • Recognise the role of imaging and multidisciplinary assessment in diagnosis
  • Identify indications for surgical versus conservative management
  • Describe operative strategies, including shaving, discoid, and segmental resection
  • Appreciate the importance of joint colorectal–gynaecology working in complex pelvic disease
  • Apply structured clinical reasoning to FRCS-style case scenarios.

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Mr John T Jenkins - B.Sc[Hons] MD FRCS[Gen] FRCS[Ed] EBSQ[Coloproctology] Hon FRCS[Glas]

    Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, with expertise in advanced colorectal and complex pelvic malignancy, including intestinal endometriosis. He leads the St Mark’s Complex Cancer Department, and he is the President-Elect of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI). He leads research groups and he is actively involved in national and international surgical training and collaborations.

  • Mr Arvind Vashisht - MA, MD, FRCOG

    Consultant Gynaecologist at University College Hospital London and Honorary Associate Professor at UCL, with subspecialist expertise in urogynaecology and minimally invasive surgery. He is Chair of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (Endometriosis Centres) and has a strong clinical and research focus on endometriosis and pelvic floor disorders.
