Genetics of colorectal cancer and immunotherapy

Overview

The webinar will consist of a panel of a colorectal surgeon, clinical geneticist and an oncologist. The speakers will give short presentations on “hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes and their surgical management”; “genetic testing and follow up of patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes” and “overview of immunotherapy for colorectal cancer” respectively.

Aims

  • To learn about hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes from a surgical perspective, their testing and follow up
  • To learn about immunotherapies available for colorectal cancer

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the presentation and genetics of different hereditary colorectal cancer syndrome and their surgical management
  • Understand the criteria for testing and follow up guidance for patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes
  • Demonstrate an understanding of immunotherapy options for colorectal cancer patients, their indications and side effects.

Our panellists include:

  • Professor Malcolm Dunlop - Professor and Group Leader in the Colon Cancer Genetics Group, University of Edinburgh. Chair of Coloproctology at Edinburgh University and  Academic Head of the Colorectal Surgery Unit, Western General Hospital in Edinburgh since 2000.

  • Dr. Jennie Murray - Consultant in Clinical Genetics in NHS Lothian and Clinical lead for Cancer Genetics for SE Scotland for last 5 years.  Current Chair of the Scottish Hereditary Cancer Genetics Group.

  • Dr. Lesley Dawson - Consultant Medical Oncologist at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at University of Edinburgh.

  • Miss Stephanie Au - ST7 Colorectal Surgery, Western General Hospital.
