Overview
Children and young people often present with undifferentiated surgical pathology to hospitals without specialist paediatric surgeons, and come under the remit of the general surgeon – who often have limited paediatric-specific training. This webinar will focus on the diagnosis, management and transfer considerations pertinent to this group of patients.
Aims
To learn the key principles in the diagnosis and management of paediatric patients with emergency surgical pathology.

Describe the initial approach to the assessment, investigation and resuscitation of the undifferentiated paediatric surgical patient

Appreciate the different approach required to the assessment of paediatric patients vs their adult counterparts

Describe the indications for transfer of paediatric surgical patients to centres with specialist input.

Our panellists include:
- Mr Viswa Rajalingam MBChB MSc FRCS - Mr Rajalingam is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon in Dudley with a specialist interest in general surgery of childhood. He graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2009 and completed his surgical training in Wales and the Midlands, as well as a MSc in Clinical Anatomy. He has interests in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, paediatric general surgery and surgical education.
