This webinar builds on the previous session on obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), offering a practical, clinically focused introduction to screening for OSA tailored to early-career medical and dental professionals. It will cover key approaches to identifying at-risk patients, principles of airway assessment, and the importance of appropriate referral pathways. An overview of current management options will be provided, alongside the role of multidisciplinary collaboration in patient care. The session aims to support early recognition of OSA and promote coordinated, patient-centred management across healthcare settings.
Aims
This webinar aims to equip early-career clinicians with practical knowledge of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) screening, referral pathways, and multidisciplinary management, while introducing key concepts in sleep medicine.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:
- Recognise common signs, symptoms, and risk factors of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)
- Apply simple screening tools (e.g. STOP-BANG) to identify patients at risk of OSA
- Describe appropriate referral pathways for patients with suspected OSA
- Outline basic clinical airway assessment relevant to OSA
- Differentiate common types of sleep studies used in the diagnosis of OSA
- Appreciate the role of the multidisciplinary team in the management of OSA.
