Managing Upper GI perforations

Overview
Perforation of the upper gastrointestinal tract is a surgical emergency associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Common sites are the oesophagus, stomach or first part of the duodenum. This webinar will focus on the clinical presentation of each of these, their immediate management and outcomes.

Mr Gijs van Boxel PhD FRCS
Gijs is a consultant oesophago-gastric surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals University and Sherrington Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He has a particular interest in robotic upper GI surgery having spent a year in Utrecht, The Netherlands, working in one of the pioneering centres in this specialty. His clinical work is devoted to resectional surgery for cancer of the stomach and oesophagus, as well as benign surgery of the upper GI tract. He was recently awarded the first Intuitive Foundation Fellowship in the UK and heads the only RCS-approved Upper GI robotic fellowship in the UK hosted in the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
