Join us for the next webinar in our wellbeing series, organised by the RCSEd Trainee Committee.

Enhance and optimise your training through an interactive expert-led panel discussion covering key topics, including:

  • Developing an effective and structured training plan
  • Maximising learning opportunities in theatre
  • How to target challenging operative requirements (e.g. endoscopy in general surgery)
  • Working efficiently and effectively
  • Preparing for and optimising your appraisal
  • Making informed decisions about taking time out of training
  • Accessing appropriate support when feeling overwhelmed or experiencing ‘difficulties’

Aims

Improve surgical trainees understanding of the training pathway and provide suggestions and management strategies to navigating some of the key areas trainees are concerned about during their training years.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will feel more confident in knowing how to make training work for them, including how to maximise theatre and clinical opportunities, understanding what a training plan can do, how to optimise the end of year review / appraisal and recognising when additional support may be beneficial.

Panellists

Our panellists include:

Ms Emily Baird – Ms Baird is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant based in Edinburgh at a busy tertiary teaching hospital and the current TPD for the South East of Scotland Trauma and Orthopaedic rotation. She has a very keen interest in improving the training experience for trainees.

Mr James Tomlinson – Mr Tomlinson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon and Associate Medical Director for Education at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. He has a longstanding interest in surgical training and is a current member of the Trauma & Orthopaedic Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) as well as chair of the RCSEd Faculty of Surgical Trainers.

Ms Sarah Downey – Ms Downey is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at James Paget University Hospital as well as Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia. She was previously the East of England General Surgery TPD.

Ms Alex Haddon – Alex is an orthopaedic registrar based in Edinburgh and is on the RCSEd trainee committee. She is passionate about trainee wellbeing and health as well as education.

Mr Abdel Hamed - Abdel is a ST8 Urology trainee in South Wales. He trained oversees and is completing his postgraduate surgical training in the UK. He is currently on the RCSEd trainee committee.

Ms Ngozi Anyaugo – Ngozi is a ST5 General Surgery trainee in East of England, with a special interest in Upper GI. She is currently on the RCSEd trainee committee.

Mr George Neelankavil Davis – George is a ST6 in General Surgery based in Inverness and a current Scottish leadership fellow as well as a member of the RCSEd trainee committee. He has an interest in Paediatric and remote and rural medicine.
