Improving the workplace

Overview
As the final webinar of the RCSEd Trainee Committee Wellbeing Week we want to think about moving forward.
Join us to hear from a range of speakers who will discuss what needs to change in our workplace in order to support wellbeing. We will tackle some of the issues surrounding our workplace culture - acknowledging our vulnerabilities, removing bullying and incivility and promoting culture change through diversity. We will round up by celebrating how far we have come.
Panellists
Gill Hardman - Chair
Gill is an ST7 Cardiothoracic surgery trainee and NHSBT clinical research fellow. She has a masters degree in medical education and is a member of the RCSEd Trainees’ Committee
Liz O’Riordan
Liz is an international speaker, broadcaster and award-winning co-author. In 2015 (aged 40) she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer whilst working as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon. The side effects of treatment for this meant she had to retire as a surgeon in 2019. She speaks widely to children, students and health care professionals about how to cope when things go wrong, sharing the strategies that helped her when cancer took her career away.
Simon Fleming
Simon is a London-based Trauma and Orthopaedic registrar and a Ph.D candidate in Medical Education at Barts and The London Medical School. He past President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees’ Association (BOTA) with interests in combating bullying, undermining, harassment and the lack of diversity and equity in healthcare, through the award winning #HammerItOut and #CutItOut campaigns.
Stella Vig
Stella is a Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon. A trainer whom is passionate about the NHS. Determined to ensure the good health of all NHS professionals.
Rosie Baruah
Is a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia in Edinburgh. Her professional interests include diversity, equity and inclusion in medicine. She is a former chair of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine’s Women in Intensive Care Medicine Group and is undertaking an MD to examine the drivers behind the gender balance seen in UK ICM.
Alice Hartley
ST6 in Urology. She was the Trainee Member of Council at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh from 2015-2017 and spent four years on the Trainees Committee. During this time she led the College’s campaign to tackle undermining and bullying in surgery (#LetsRemoveIt)
