The Other On-Call: Navigating Family Life Alongside a Career in Surgery

30th November 2026, 19:00 to 20:00 GMT

Overview

Balancing a demanding surgical career with family life brings its own particular pressures: on-call rotas, long hours, and the pull between two important worlds. In this webinar, Dr Gauri Seth, founder of Attune In, draws on her clinical background and coaching practice to explore why this balance is often so hard, and what can genuinely help. Trainees and consultants will come away with practical strategies for managing competing demands and thriving in both worlds, rather than simply surviving them.

Aims

To explore the particular pressures of combining a surgical career with family life, and to share practical strategies for managing competing demands sustainably.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Recognise the pressures that surgical training and consultant practice place on family life and personal wellbeing.
  • Identify practical strategies for managing competing demands between career and home.
  • Apply approaches for sustaining connection with family and self alongside an on-call career.
